James Jefferson Johnson, Jr., born in Sweetwater, Texas. Received a Bachelor of Art and Education at West Texas State University, where he met his wife, Dr. Mary Lynn Johnson. He received a Master's Degree at University of Texas, El Paso, and a Ph.D. in Art Education from Pennsylvania State University.
